English singer/songwriter Rex Orange County has cancelled his forthcoming Australian tour. The announcement was shared via the singer’s social media accounts, citing “unforeseen personal circumstances” as the reason for the cancellation. Rex Orange County – the project of British musician Alex O’Connor – was originally due to visit Australia in 2020 before COVID scuppered his touring plans.
“It is with a great deal of sadness to announce that due to unforeseen personal circumstances, I am having to spend some time at home this year and I will not be able to continue with touring as planned,” O’Connor explained. “This is the last thing I want to do. I love touring and I am so sorry to be letting anyone down. I look forward to getting back to it as soon as I can.”

According to the statement, Rex Orange County is still scheduled to perform a handful of tour dates throughout England, Ireland, and Scotland in the coming weeks, though his performance at London’s Gunnersbury Park on 13th August will be his last show for the year. All performances slated to take place in Australia, New Zealand, and Europe throughout September and November have been cancelled.
Rex Orange County’s sole visit to Australia took place in early 2019 as part of that year’s Laneway Festival, alongside the likes of Gang Of Youths, Denzel Curry, and What So Not. He released his second album, Pony, in late 2019 and had been scheduled to visit Australia in 2020, though these dates were cancelled due to the COVID pandemic. The singer’s latest dates, which were announced in March of this year, were planned in support of his fourth album, Who Cares?.
