I know, shocking right? In a post on his official website Ricky Martin has finally confirmed that he is gay.
In other equally surprising news just at hand, Santa Claus is not a real person, and the Earth is not the centre of the universe.
While we applaud Martin’s decision to come out of the closet, and don’t mean at all to lampoon the courage it took him to do it, we do still wonder if there was anyone on the planet who was really surprised by this ‘revelation’.
Barbara Walters revealed some troubling news on the matter last week, however, while talking to the Toronto Star:
“In 2000, I pushed Ricky Martin very hard to admit if he was gay or not, and the way he refused to do it made everyone decide that he was,” she said. “A lot of people say that destroyed his career, and when I think back on it now, I feel it was an inappropriate question.”
Perhaps it was inappropriate, but for that to ruin his career (if in fact it really did) it just goes to show that a lot of the mainstream music-listening public really are ignorant buffoons. A bit harsh? Maybe… but then again, maybe not.
