Bee Gees legend, Robin Gibb, has come out of a coma and has been able to communicate with his family, BBC reports. Gibb has been fighting a year-long battle with cancer and fell into a coma last week after developing pneumonia; doctors feared he didn’t have long to live.
Robin’s brother and Bee Gees member Barry has reportedly been by his side for the past week singing old Bee Gees’ hits.
Gibb’s wife Dwina said the singer cried when she played Roy Orbison’s 1962 song Crying on a CD player in his hospital room.
Speaking with reporters outside the hospital, Dwina said:
“He’s really, really good. I can’t believe it… He’s nodding and when we ask him questions, he’s just responding to everything.”
