Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood says he’s been working with his old Faces bandmates Rod Stewart and Kenney Jones on what could be the band’s long-awaited fifth album.
Stewart, Wood and drummer Jones haven’t recorded together as the Faces since 1973’s Ooh La La. But we might be getting a follow-up to the British blues-rock masterpiece, with Wood telling UK paper The Times that the trio have been fashioning new songs together.
“Me, Rod, and Kenney have been recording some new Faces music,” said Wood, who’s now 74 years old and has recently been through a battle with a rare small-cell cancer.
After the Faces split in 1975, Stewart carried on with his already-successful solo career, flirting with disco and new wave before settling into the role of a soft rock crooner. Wood joined Rolling Stones in 1975, making his first studio appearance on the band’s 1976 record, Black and Blue. He remains a core member of the group, having established one of classic rock’s great dual guitar attacks alongside Keith Richards.
Jones has been more of a journeyman. He stepped into replace the recently-deceased Keith Moon in The Who in 1978 and stayed with the band for much of the 1980s. In the ’90s, Jones formed The Law with vocalist Paul Rodgers of Bad Company.
Wood provided scant details of the band’s recording sessions, but the news isn’t entirely out of the blue. The three original Faces reunited on-stage at the 2020 BRIT Awards for a 50th anniversary performance of ‘Stay With Me’. Faces had previously reunited at the 1993 BRIT Awards, also to perform ‘Stay With Me’ (from 1971’s A Nod Is As Good As a Wink… to a Blind Horse).
