Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever Take Out Levi’s Music Prize Worth $25,000

Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, who spent last year smashing huge milestones like playing SXSW, have continued their winning streak by taking the coveted $25,000 Levi’s Music Prize.

The Melbourne five-piece were announced the winners today, which was decided by a panel of international judges.

The prize is awarded to an artist that underwent a huge career jump via their experience at BIGSOUND, grabbed the bull by the horns and capitalised on that momentum – it’s essentially a reward for hard work. The $25,000 is to help support the act on further impacting international stages and circuits.

Seems fitting that the award then went to Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, as they’re currently on a huge international tour, playing juggernaut festivals like Coachella, Shaky Knees Festival, The Great Escape and Primavera Sound. That’s all before they play a sure-to-be-huge homecoming set at Splendour In The Grass.

The band released a statement on winning the massive prize.

“We are so grateful to have been chosen for the Levi’s® Music Prize. BIGSOUND provided the opportunity for us play a bunch of shows in front of music industry folks from around the world. Because of the conference we were able to secure a US booking agent and set things in motion for us to start touring our music. Because touring is not cheap, particularly for Australian bands, it is not easy for young artists to take their music on the road. The Levi’s Music Prize will help us tour our album to new audiences in new cities and towns.”

Their debut record, Hope Downs, is out Friday, 15th June.
