Wu-Tang Clan mastermind RZA, real name Robert Fitzgerald Diggs, claims that the blame for the extended delay in the release of new Wu-Tang Clan material lays with Clan member Raekwon, in a recent appearance on the re-booted Arsenio Hall Show.
During the interview, host Hall asked RZA about tweets that had Raekwon writing, “Yea i just read that rza article? Shit is funny to me,” before adding, “I love u rza, u know what it really is.” In the dispatches, Raekwon referred to an interview RZA recently did with Grantland, where he said:
“I feel like we have enough material on the album. I just need Raekwon to come onboard fully. I need some more energy from Ghost[face Killah] and GZA, too. If they give that energy, I will give us a great last album. If they don’t give us the energy, I gotta figure out a plan B.”
RZA confirmed to Hall that Raekwon’s lack of input is holding up A Better Tomorrow, the group’s sixth album, originally slated for a July release to commemorate the 20th anniversary of their groundbreaking 1993 debut, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers).
Appearing on Hall’s show for the ninth anniversary of late Wu-Tang Clan member Ol’ Dirty Bastard‘s death, RZA told the host that “Raekwon is the last one to come put his verses on,” before adding:
“Today is the day that Ol’ Dirty Bastard passed away…the thing is, he can’t be here. I can be here. Raekwon can be here. Method Man can be here. So I just thought that we all should be there. And I know Raekwon is gonna be there. He knows I love him.”
RZA made it clear that there was no bad blood between the two, saying, “We’ve got nothing but brotherly love for each other, but put some of the business to the side and let’s go make this music, yo,” before jokingly asking the host, “What are you trying to do, start beef?!”
