RZA Is Suing Wu-Tang Clan Merch Bootleggers for $2 Million USD

RZA has slapped a bunch of e-commerce sites with a $2million USD lawsuit for selling unofficial merchandise adorned with the Wu-Tang Clan logo.

As reported by Complex who gained access to the legal documents, the rapper has slapped these e-commerce operators with multiple charges, including copyright infringement, counterfeiting, and false designation of origin.

He also alleges that the bootleggers have adopted the group’s brand in order to say that the merchandise they are selling is official.

“Many defendants also deceive unknowing consumers by using the Wu-Tang Clan Trademarks without authorization within the content, text, and/or meta tags of their e-commerce stores to attract various search engines crawling the Internet looking for e-commerce stores relevant to consumer searches for Wu-Tang Clan products,” the documents say.

“Other e-commerce stores operating under the Seller Aliases omit using the Wu-Tang Clan Trademarks in the item title to evade enforcement efforts while using strategic item titles and descriptions that will trigger their listings when consumers are searching for Wu-Tang Clan products.”

RZA is aiming to collect around $2M USD in damages, alongside blocking these stores from being allowed to sell fake merch.

He is also hoping to ask marketplace websites, such as Amazon and eBay, to cease promoting these products.
