Sampa The Great is making her long awaited return to Sydney this year, being announced as the first act set to play VIVID Live 2021.
The Sydney festival will be play home to an Australian exclusive show from Sampa as she returns from Zambia, and will also be the worldwide premiere of her new show ‘An Afro Future’.
Ben Marshall, Sydney Opera House Head of Contemporary Music and Vivid LIVE Curator, teased what fans can expect in a press statement.
“I’m honoured Sampa The Great is returning from Zambia, choosing Vivid LIVE at the Sydney Opera House to realise her majestic and ambitious live performance spectacle, ‘An Afro Future’,” Marshall said.
“Sampa Tembo’s triumphant artistic arc makes her one of the most exciting creative voices of her generation, with her dazzling and inventive explorations of her musical and cultural heritage, fused with the explosive energy of the very best parties.”
Sampa’s ‘An Afro Future’ will take place at the Sydney Opera House’s Joan Sutherland Theatre on Sunday, 8th August. The entire VIVID Festival will kick off on Friday, 6th August and last until Saturday, 28th August.
