San Cisco have made their return with the announcement of their new album Under the Light and released their first new song of 2024, ‘Summer Days’, as its latest single. The track features vocals from Pond frontman Nicholas Allbrook, whom the band described as a “long-term collaborator and good friend” in a press release.
As for the song itself, the band describe it as thematically concerning the experience of loss on New Year’s Eve – namely, the simultaneous nature of “reflecting on the past” but “it’s “also about mourning what the future could have been.”
“Standing on the rooftop of a tall building in a city, filled with things that feel nothing like home, on an evening engineered for celebrating love at the strike of midnight, [it’s] the mark of a new year and a new beginning,” the band wrote. “But, where do you fit into it all now they’re gone?”
The band have also shared a video clip for the single, which follows on directly from their previous music video for the song ‘High’ – which will also feature on Under the Light, their fifth album overall. Like ‘High’, the video was directed by another long-term collaborator in filmmaker Levi Cranston. It was shot on location in the Blue Mountains, and can be viewed below.
San Cisco – ‘Summer Days’
Prior to the announcement of Under the Light, San Cisco had spent 2023 releasing a string of new singles across the year. Along with the aforementioned ‘High’, the band also released ‘Lost Without You’ in February, the double A-side of ‘Honeycomb’ and ‘Horoscope’ in May and the album’s eventual title track in August.
The band also completed a national tour in November, supported by fellow Perth artist Noah Dillon, during which further new material from the album was previewed. Before heading to the UK and Europe for a run of dates across May and June, the band will head to Launceston to perform at this year’s Party In The Paddock festival alongside acts such as Rudimental, Milky Chance and The Darkness.
