Less than a week out from their Australian tour, British rockers Savages have cancelled it “due to unforeseen circumstances”.
As well as playing headline shows around the country, the band were due to play as Tasmania’s Dark Mofo festival alongside ZHU and Chelsea Wolf. Festival director Leigh Carmichael said he was ” extremely disappointed” by the last minute cancellation.
“68 per cent of tickets to this sold out show are from interstate, so we are going to have some extremely dismayed patrons,” he said in a statement.
“While we know this announcement is going to be discouraging for ticket holders, for those heading to Hobart this week we say ‘don’t let the f*#kers get you down.’”
In the spirit of not letting the “f*#kers get you down,” the festival has announced impressive replacements. Eddy Current Suppression Ring will take their spot supported by pysch-rockers King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard, and multi-instrumentalist JP Shilo. This will be Eddy Current Suppression Ring‘s second show since reforming at Golden Plains Festival earlier this year.
Organisers noted that “Savages will leave a curatorial hole in the overall festival experience,” but said they were “excited” by the additions made at the last minute.
The band said in a statement that they were “deeply sorry” about cancelling.
“As big fans of music ourselves, we know how much it sucks to have to get your ticket refunded with no show. We love Australia and look forward to making it up to you 100% sooner rather than later.”
Ticket holders for Savages at Dark Mofo will be contacted by Mona ticket support today. Ticket holders for their other shows will be given refunds.
