UPDATE: The 2017 Surry Hills Festival music lineup has now been revealed.
ORIGINAL STORY: Now in its 15th year, the annual (and free) Surry Hills Festival has announced that it’ll be returning to Sydney’s inner-city on Saturday, 23rd September with a lineup of music, food and performance, and applications are now open for bands, artists and vendors.
Last year’s Surry Hills Festival featured a music lineup which included acts such as Hey Geronimo, LANKS, Allan Smithy and Castlecomer. This year’s lineup is expected to be announced in August.
This year’s event will also feature a new evening hub in and around Ward Park, and organisers have also announced their initiative Double Take, which will see selected artists work with curators Esem Projects to cover Devonshire Street and surrounds with projections and pop-up installations. Double Take will run over three weeks from 23rd September until 15th October, and artists can apply here.
60,000 people are expected to attend Surry Hills Festival 2017, which will also feature tours of the suburb, creative workshops and heaps of pop-up art and music spaces. Entry is free, and all funds raised will go to community programs run by the Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre.
