Tickets to Green Day‘s upcoming Australian tour may have gone on sale weeks ago, but scalpers are still trying to flog the things online for as much as $900 a pop.
This week, Music Feeds has spotted tickets to Green Day’s upcoming sold out show at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena going for almost $900 on the Ticketmaster Resale site — and these are tickets which were originally sold for $150 each.
Tickets to other shows, including shows which are yet to sell out, are also advertised for hundreds more than their original prices.
Elsewhere, Swiss-based ticketing site Viagogo, which launched in Australia in 2013, is currently advertising Green Day tickets for as much as $450 a pop.
Consumer advocacy group CHOICE has now launched an international survey into ticket resale sites, and is calling on fans and industry insiders to complete the survey and dob in any dodgy ticket scalpers.
CHOICE filed complaints against Ticketmaster Resale and Viagogo with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) last month, after a number of popular Australian tours (including Adele, Midnight Oil, Justin Bieber and Crowded House) had tickets up for resale for many times their original price.
In a statement last month, Ticketmaster said it would take “appropriate action” against any sellers who display “non-compliance” on its Ticketmaster Resale site, and would “continue to work to provide customers with fair and transparent pricing structures”. Viagogo declined to comment.
Green Day are set to tour Australia in May behind their latest album Revolution Radio. Only two shows on the tour are currently sold out.
What’s more, Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt recently told Music Feeds that the band haven’t ruled out doing another surprise pub show when they arrive down under later this year.
