Music manager Scooter Braun has taken to social media to address the controversy surrounding Taylor Swift‘s recent claim that he and Big Machine Label Group’s Scott Borchetta were stopping her performing her old music live.
Braun has written a lengthy statement which says that his family have received death threats since Swift first suggested her performance at the American Music Awards wouldn’t be allowed to feature any music she recorded while signed to Big Machine.
The issue has since been resolved, with Borchetta’s Big Machine agreeing to “grant all licenses of their artists” without naming Swift specifically.
Despite Swift getting the all clear to perform, Braun says his family have received threatening phone calls and messages.
“Since your public statement last week there have been numerous death threats directed at my family,” he wrote.
“This morning I spoke out publicly for the first time saying I wouldn’t participate in a social media war.
“However I came home tonight to find my wife had received a phone call threatening the safety of our children as well as other threats seen above.”
Braun continued, writing that while he understands that it was not Swift’s intention to put his family in emotional turmoil, that she needs to understand that her words “carry a tremendous amount of weight and that your message can be interpreted by some in different ways.”
In the long post, Braun also addressed previous issues raised by Taylor in the time since his company Ithaca Holdings LLC purchased Big Machine Label Group – which holds the rights to all her music prior to recent album Lover.
