The Strokes have used their headline performance at Portugal’s NOS Alive Festival to cover Clairo’s ‘Sofia’. The New York City indie icons shared their cover of the song on Wednesday night after Clairo was forced to cancel her set at the festival.
Clairo had initially been scheduled to perform on the same evening as The Strokes, but ultimately cancelled her appearance due to issues with travel, beginning with a cancelled flight. “Once we found another flight, we couldn’t find any transportation to get us to the airport,” Clairo wrote in a since-deleted story on Instagram. “It’s been a whirlwind of a tour. Hope you guys understand & i’m truly sorry. AGAIN.”

Fan-shot video of the performance sees the group utilising a healthy dose of autotune to provide a relatively faithful version of Clairo’s original. Their cover also sees the group interpolating a brief snippet of Harry Styles’ chart-topping single, ‘As It Was’.
Just last month, The Strokes found themselves in a similar situation when they were forced to cancel their own set at Spain’s Primavera Sound festival due to case of COVID within the band. In response, Australia’s own Tame Impala ensured the group were still represented, offering up a cover of The Strokes’ ‘Last Nite’ during their own set.
