Sydney prog/other tech rock fiends SERIOUS BEAK have released a remix album based on their debut record Huxwhukw.
The album features contributions from Alex Wilson (sleepmakeswaves), Nick Soole (Slimey Things), Dylan Mitrovich (Breaking Orbit), Hinterlandt, Godswounds, Moz Troniquz, Brendan Gloag (Face Command), Redbatman, AM Frequencies and The Artists Formally Known As Gene And Tim.
Thankfully, the album is pretty good. There’s some ambiance and electronic glitching, as you might expect, but it’s amongst some great musical interpretations of the original prog rock tracks (which you can check out here). Nick Soole’s approach is suitably cinematic and belongs somewhere in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, whilst Godswounds make the Beak sound their own.
There were also a bunch of other submissions for the project, including Alex Tulett (Moranis, super FLORENCE jam) and Special K Audio, which can be heard here http://soundcloud.com/art-as-catharsis
It’s partly novelty, partly an impressive display of the talents of these musicians, but fans of the original album will enjoy it. Keep an eye out for other such collaborations, as you’ll find that the term ‘remix’ means more than just commercial dance versions.
Huxwhukw and the Crooked Beak of Heaven Remixes is out now through Art As Catharis Records.
