Serious Beak Release New Album ‘Huxwhukw’

Sydney-based Prog supergroup Serious Beak have released their debut album Huxwhukw. Launched at a packed club show at Sydney’s Lansdowne Hotel on Saturday night, the record features the band’s “eccentric amalgamation of mind-melting, toe-tapping, psychedelic, progressive and poly-rhythmic discordant music, sure to please fans of Meshuggah, Mastodon, Botch, The Mars Volta and King Crimson.”

The group features Lachlan Dale (Adrift For Days), Tim Brown (Squat Club), Gene White (Squid) and Andrew Mortensen (Slimey Things), with guest vocals from Canadian-Australian songbird Brian Campeau.

The album is an ear-pleaser for those preferring technical complexity mixed with a hint of humour. To be clear, this is not a studio-enhanced project. The live show is just as tight as the record and features some of the grooviest riffery we’ve heard since Squat Club’s ‘Corvus’. Not to mention some of the year’s best cover art.

Huxwhukw is out now on boutique label Art As Catharsis Records.
