Soul and funk devotee Sharon Jones has announced a series of headlining shows around Australia with her 10-piece strong backing band The Dap-Kings while in town for Peats Ridge Festival.
A combination of gospel, soul and funk, Sharon Jones’ quality as a singer has been compared to the likes of Tina Turner, Mavis Staples, James Brown, and Aretha Franklin . However, rather than being just one, Jones manages to incorporate elements of each to create her own totally unique sound. The dynamic frontwoman’s voice has never been stronger, giving Australia the pleasure of witnessing the songstress at her best yet.
Though there is some stiff competition out there, Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings have been crowned the greatest and most electrifying super soul revue you can find these days. Bringing their New York level coolness Down Under, the outfit will be seeing in the new year at Peats Ridge Festival, and now to the delight of fans, they will also be touring throughout the country with a selection of special guests.
The last release from the band took the form of 2009’s I Learned the Hard Way. It is the fourth in a line of highly credible and critically acclaimed releases at the hands of the group, who will be picking and choosing from their back catalogue to make this tour as memorable for fans as possible.
