All-female Japanese garage punk legends Shonen Knife gifted to the world their 19th album, Overdrive, earlier this year, and in celebration they’re bringing the tunes to Australia for a handful of headline dates, in addition to their spot on the MONA FOMA 2015 lineup.
The critically acclaimed trio, who enjoy an international cult-like following, will play special sets at Brisbane’s Gallery Of Modern Art’s Future Beauty UP LATE and Hobart’s MONA FOMA 2015 and, as a special treat will kick things off at MONA FOMA Faux Mo, by presenting a rare performance of their Ramones Tribute album Osaka Ramones.
On top of their festival performances, Shonen Knife will play sets in Perth, Adelaide, Sydney, and Melbourne. Formed in Osaka, Japan in 1981, Shonen Knife are heavily influenced by 1960s girl groups and early punk rock. They’ve since toured the world, having been championed by seminal ’90s alt rock outfits like Sonic Youth, Nirvana and Redd Kross.
Shonen Knife are sure to break out tunes from their extensive back catalogue, as well from Overdrive, an album influenced by ’70s hard rock. See all the tour dates and ticket details below.
