Sigur Rós Launch Never-Ending Playlist ‘Liminal’

Sigur Rós have launched a new playlist titled Liminal and you’re going to have to bear with us while we explain it because it’s not a traditional release at all.

The Icelandic experimentalists have started an “endless” playlist that will continue to be updated with new music, versions of old songs and also the barebones of new songs.

Liminal is already live on streaming platforms and YouTube and currently features 16 tracks including plenty of Liminal mixes of old tracks.

Frontman Jónsi has explained the playlist a little better in statement calling it “something different”.

“Sigur Rós played live a lot during the last two years. And inevitably you end up playing the rockier, more focussed songs, which means that loads of other stuff gets ignored,” he said.

“It’s just me, Paul [Corley], and Alex [Somers] in a dark room manipulating and mucking around with recordings, FX and vocals. We play and sing sparsely and focus on the atmosphere coming together.”

The group haven’t release a record since 2013’s Kveikur so hopefully this new project will satisfy eager fans.

You can check out the playlist as it currently stands below.
