Ethereal Icelandic outfit Sigur Rós are teasing a big announcement via a new clip uploaded to their social media channels.
Although the band has unveiled a spattering of new music over the past couple of years, their last full length album came back in 2013, and the fact that this latest video (below) is titled 2017 could be a solid indication of a new album possibly coming next year.
The clip, which depicts footage from the band’s live shows and visuals, also teases the word ‘Monday’, suggesting that whatever the announcement is it’s likely only a matter of days before we find out.
Sigur Rós have already shut down speculation that the announcement may be a reunion with departed keyboard player Kjartan Sveinsson.
In true Sigur Rós fashion, the band have since clarified that the comment was a joke, just in case anyone didn’t get it.

Although it’s been quite some time since Sigur Rós played headline shows in Australia, Sigur Rós were last in the country for this year’s Splendour In The Grass festival. They had the unfortunate privilege of closing the festival at the same time as Flume, but for those who bucked the trend and caught them live it was a sight to behold.
Their latest incredible project came in the form of a 24-hour live stream of a 1332km journey across Iceland accompanied by their music.
