Sigur Rós are set to play an intimate tour across a string of theatres in North America in September and October, and they’ve got something special planned for the shows.
According to the band, the special shows won’t feature a support act but will feature two separate sets, separated by an intermission, allowing for extra time for the trio to play brand new music as well as old favourites.
These intimate gigs signify the first time in over a decade that Sigur Rós have played new material onstage ahead of it being released, and in a statement the band have said that they will also be playing “new interpretations of old songs that haven’t been played live in a very long time.”
The statement goes on to outline that the Icelandic trio want this tour to get fans to remember the “seat-of-your-pants feeling” that comes with hearing never-before heard music live. “Every time you go on tour you want it to be different … and every time it is, usually because you have a new album you want to play people,” the band wrote. “But there was a time when things were the other way round, when we worked stuff out on the road, and trying to capture lightning in a bottle was a problem for the studio later on.”
“All we can say right now is it’s going to be different, with new unreleased songs, a new show and maybe some other new things. Beyond that, we can only ask you to trust us on this one.”
With the first date not taking place until the 9th of September, the Icelandic group have a big gap in their schedule and could foreseeably fit in an appearance at Splendour In The Grass 2016. Here’s hoping Aus audiences get to hear some of those sweet new tunes.
