In 2011, Melbourne singer-songwriter Siobhan started to build herself up as an artist to watch in coming years, and is set to release her debut album on May 23rd, 2012.
In the words of Siobhan, the album was written to show how hard it is for in individual to exist without having to give in to society. For Siohban: “The term ‘soldier’ was used to represent the structure that society places on an individual, whereas ‘heart’ represents the part of an individual that remains forever the dreamer”.
A track that will stand out is Don’t Take her Heart If You’re Gonna Let Her Down, which is Siobhan talking about an unhealthy bond shared between two people and the seeming lack of respect that would be shared in a wholesome relationship.
While in contrast, Penny Farthing is a far more cryptic song, that shows off the lyrical ability of Siobhan and doesn’t tell us a cohesive story like Don’t Take Her Heart If You’re Gonna Let Her Down.
The title track, Soldier Heart, was picked because the song best represented her life at the time of writing the album, which was when she was moving into adulthood and saw the problems that many of her friends faced.
The album will be released on May 23rd on iTunes.
The official album launch will be at The Toff in Town with Special Guest Emmy Byrce and tickets can be bought for $15 dollars at the door or from here.
