Sir Paul McCartney is hoping to enter the studio with Jeff Lynne in the near future, in a bid to finally complete an unfinished John Lennon track.
According to Live4Ever, the track first resurfaced during work on The Beatles’ Anthology documentary series in the mid-nineties.
Speaking on Jeff Lynne’s new documentary Mr. Blue Sky, McCartney reveals that he, Lynne and George Harrison had been working on a second John Lennon-written song to go with the eventual single Free As a Bird.
However, they didn’t finish re-recording the track as George thought it was “rubbish”.
“There was another one that we started working on but George went off it,” McCartney said.
“We were like, ‘No George, this is John’. He said, ‘It’s still rubbish!’. ‘Ok then’.”
“So that one is still lingering around. I’m gonna nick in with Jeff and do it, finish it, one of these days.”
Free As a Bird was officially released in 1995 to promote the Anthology films. The track peaked at No.2 on the UK Singles Chart.
In other McCartney news, the ex-Beatle will release a new DVD called Live Kisses in the coming months. The live DVD will capture his performance at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles on February 9 earlier this year – the 48th anniversary of the Fab Four’s world-changing first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show.
