Smashing Pumpkins House Show Shut Down By Police, Following Noise Complaints

A house show by the (mostly) reformed Smashing Pumpkins has been shut down by police, after locals made noise complaints about the band’s surprise concert.

Hitting up the same Los Angeles house where they filmed the video for ‘1979’, Billy Corgan and company were performing to a small audience in the home’s backyard over the weekend, but not everyone was into it.

Local news reports suggest neighbours complained about the noise and the influx of cars, but when police arrived, a number of the officers who were fans of the band reportedly let the group play on a little longer than some neighbours might have wanted.

In the end, the set reportedly finished a little early, with the Pumpkins unable to squeeze in a planned encore performance of ‘Cherub Rock’.

Taking to Instagram after the show, Corgan thanked fans and apologised to locals.

“Apologies to those in Studio City for the disturbance of our nihilistic noize,” he said.

“‘Twas a full moon and something just gets into the blood. And respect to the police, who let us finish the set. Mendacious as our conclusion was.”

Smashing Pumpkins played their first proper reunion show in Los Angeles last week, featuring a setlist packed with hits.

The group are preparing to embark on a reunion tour of the US, but no Australian dates have been announced yet.
