Smashing Pumpkins front man Billy Corgan has admitted in a recent interview with Rolling Stone that he will “never reform” the original line up.
The group broke up after releasing their sixth studio album Machina II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music in 2000. At that point original bassist D’arcy Wretzky had left the band.
Since the band’s reformation, only Jimmy Chamberlain (Drums) has been involved, but has since left, leaving Corgan as the only original member.
Rolling Stone asked him if the original lineup would ever reunite, this is what he said:
No. just one of those things that are never going to happen”
“The things that have happened between us in the interim haven’t been good”, he continued. “There’s been lawsuits and lots of stupid stuff. It’s only made it worse. If it was bad before, it’s really bad now.”
“There’s not super bad blood between me and Jimmy that we’d never get on stage again. But I cannot in any way, shape, or form ever envision standing on a stage, playing music again with [ex-guitarist] James [Iha] and D’Arcy. I just don’t see any situation where that would be possible.”
It might be a bit tricky getting D’Arcy back after she was arrested for breaching her home states Animals running at large law and not paying the subsequent fine.
There is some good news for classic Pumkins fans, last week the band announced plans to release remastered reissues of their back catalog over the the next three years.
