Sony Music Australia is being investigated, with the company’s head office in the US looking into claims of discrimination, bullying and harassment within its Aussie team.
According to SMH, a staff member at the label’s Darlinghurst HQ triggered the review after making a complaint to the global head of human resources, who is now reaching out to both former and current employees down under in a bid to get to the bottom of things.
It comes after Sony Music Australia sacked its vice president of commercial music, Tony Gover, back in April, after a previous internal investigation found he had bullied and harassed multiple staff members at the company.
These fresh allegations, however, are understood to be unrelated to Glover.
SMH has detailed some of the claims, allegedly made to its journalists independently by a number of anonymous female staff members, who’ve alleged incidents ranging from sexual assaults to discrimination against pregnant employees. You can read those here.
It comes as a cultural crackdown on dodgy behaviour in the Australian music industry continues to intensify, after the global #MeToo movement brought increased scrutiny on its shameful history of gender discrimination and sexual misconduct.
