Soulfest, “Australia’s first ever neo-soul, jazz and hip-hop festival,” has just confirmed date, venue and ticket details for its Auckland leg, giving our friends across the ditch in NZ the opportunity to see some of the world’s most soulful acts onstage this October.
The festival’s NZ details were revealed via a Facebook post this morning, where organisers announced that the New Zealand leg of the event will take place over the Labour Day long weekend on Sunday, 26th October in Auckland’s Western Springs.
The expansion of the festival was teased last week, with Soulfest posting about the imminent announcement of a New Zealand event, accompanied by a photo displaying the already announced headlining acts of the Australian festival. Judging by the image, artists who may appear on the New Zealand lineup, expected to be confirmed tomorrow, include neo-soul legend D’Angelo, Common, Aloe Blacc, Mos Def, as well as Leela James and Angie Stone.
Promoters have previously promised punters that a two-stage setup paired with a ten-hour timetable will ensure “there will be no scheduling conflicts, allowing ticket holders to view every artist on the bill”. The event will be “a unique opportunity to see and hear some of the world’s finest artists in a relaxed atmosphere,” and will also feature quality cuisine, including “authentic New Orleans soulfood, a chilli cook-off, and themed bars.”
The previously announced headliners for the Australian leg of the festival also include acclaimed R&B talent Anthony Hamilton, as well as the smooth R&B stylings of Maxwell, Musiq Soulchild plus sets from Aussies Ngaiire, Nathaniel, and more.
Pre-sale tickets for Soulfest New Zealand will be available on Tuesday, June 3rd at 9am. General public tickets will be on sale Thursday, June 5th. Tickets are priced at at $139 for General Admission and $179 for VIP, but pre-sale options offer some discounted rates.
