SAFETY AND SECURITY AT SOUNDWAVE

Soundwave is an all ages and licensed event.
You will not be able to purchase or consume alcohol unless you have valid photo I.D and collect a drinkers’ wristband prior to entering a bar.

We strongly recommend young people from 15 to 18 be accompanied by a responsible adult (18 OR OVER).

We strongly recommend young people under 15 be accompanied by a parent guardian.

We advise that Soundwave is not suitable for children under 12 and they will not be admitted.

We reserve the right to refuse entry to the event.

Some of the artists appearing at Soundwave may use lyrics, language or gestures whilst entertaining that some people may find offensive. If such language or behavior concerns you, please do not attend. If you believe such language or behavior is unsuitable for minors, please do not allow them to attend.

Remember to bring ID, your ticket, important phone numbers, sun block, any medication you may need, a hat, charged mobile phone, pen, still camera and CASH. If you have any chronic conditions or illness (i.e. asthma, diabetes, epilepsy) please carry information regarding your condition & emergency contact number on you at all times.

Allow enough time to get to & into the show. It can take some time to get through the gates & security checks depending on the time of day so please be patient
Make sure you dress in accordance with the weather forecast. Wear sensible shoes & clothes and bring a rain coat if need

There will be a strong drug detection operation in place (including drug detection dogs) as per other festivals this summer inside and outside the shows and at nearest public transport hubs. Possession and/or consumption of illegal substances will not be tolerated.

Any patron found to be intoxicated on arrival or within the venue will be refused entry and handed over to police.

You can bring a small bag or backpack, but remember that it will take longer to get into the show & if you want to check it in it will add more queues to your day.

NOT PERMITTED ITEMS

The following items are not permitted to be bought to Soundwave by patrons:
Glass (not including perfume, medicine or vitamin bottles), Flares, Dangerous items, Alcohol, Umbrellas, Professional Video Recording Cameras (not including digital cameras), Tape Recorders (does not include mobile phones), Weapons/Dangerous Items (does not include normal studded belts or deodorant), Illicit Drugs, Fireworks, Balls (footballs, soccer balls, etc), Stickers & Flyers.

No fruit

Studded belts, Spike collars or any form of accessory may be deemed unsafe. It will be at security’s discretion whether or not items such as these will be allowed onto the site.

Certain confiscated items can be collected from the cloakroom via security.

PERMITTED ITEMS

Food such as sandwiches, (but no fruit) and other lunch items can be bought to the event. You are permitted to bring 1 fully sealed 600ml bottle of water and sandwiches to the show. However, please do remember that we’re most likely in for a hot day and food can spoil. Make sure you pace yourself, drink plenty of water, eat some food that will give you some energy & be sure to get rest, when you can, to maximize your enjoyment on the day.

SECURITY

Whether it’s entering, leaving or in the festival you will be required to abide by any reasonable request or command from the Soundwave security. Remember that they are primarily there to keep you and the entire festival safe. If you need help or see someone else requiring help please notify security straight away. Crowd surfing, moshing & circle dancing are dangerous activities & will not be tolerated. Offenders will either be banned from the area or possibly removed from the site. Soundwave accepts no violence and any forms will result in immediate removal from the site.

EMERGENCY EVACUATION

Under extreme & unlikely circumstances a building, area or the entire site may be required to be evacuated or cleared. Please follow any instruction given by security, emergency services or event staff. Information will be provided on video screens and over the public address system.

FIRST AID

There will be three first aid stations around the site to treat people who are genuinely ill or have injured themselves on the day. Try to minimize your demands on them if it does not relate to real issues as they have a very long and demanding day. Please note that the St John officers are volunteering their services on the day to help you and we thank them for their tireless work.

CAN I BRING MY CAMERA?

No professional photography equipment is permitted however point and click cameras and mobile phones are fine. No recording devices of any kind will be permitted.

WATER STATIONS

There will be hundreds of free water fountains and taps located around the site. Maps will be handed out at the front gate, which will point these stations out.

ACCESSIBLE INFORMATION

Melbourne Showground’s will have 3 accessible toilets with access to the general site being wheelchair friendly. A raised wheel chair platform facing the main stage will be located in front of the grandstand. There are limited disabled parking bays outside of event (Langs Road and Union Street) and in the car park. There is also the option of arriving and leaving via train, which departs from Southern Cross station. All Epsom Rd and Railway Gates are accessible.

PASS OUTS

No pass outs will be allowed from the event on the day

Lost property can be collected at the following points:
• Cloakroom Show Day until 11.00pm
• RASV Office from Monday 7th March, Ph: 9281 7444

PUBLIC TRANSPORT INFORMATION


GETTING TO AND FROM SOUNDWAVE

The easiest way to get to Soundwave is by public transport. Extra trains and trams have been scheduled to make travel to and from Melbourne Showgrounds quick and safe. Don’t forget you’ll need a valid Metcard or Myki to travel to the event. Visit metlinkmelbourne.com.au or call 131 638 for service details.

TRAINS

Trains will run to a Friday timetable. So make sure you plan your journey ahead of time and work out which train you’ll be catching home. A special train service will run between the showgrounds and the city to get patrons to the festival and from the showgrounds to the city at the end of night. The train service will not run all day.

Special trains will leave from Flinders Street Station. Trains will stop at Southern Cross and North Melbourne stations and then run express to Melbourne Showgrounds Trains stop at the same stations to get you home.

The special train services will be starting at 10:40 am from Flinders Street, calling at
Southern Cross and North Melbourne.

The schedule to the showgrounds as follow:

10:40am – 4:40pm a 20 min frequency
The return schedule to Flinders Street Station is as follow:
8.00pm – 9:40 pm a 20 min frequency
9:50pm – 11:00pm a 10 min frequency
Lat train to the city from Flemington departs at 11.00 pm.

TRAMS

Trams will run to a Friday timetable with extra trams running to and from the showgrounds.
Extra Route 56 trams will run from the corner of Flinders and Elizabeth streets (tram stop 1) to showgrounds on Epsom Road. Passengers can also take Route 57 trams to and from the event.
The special trams there will have a 4/5 minutes frequency
There will also be 3 special tram services running to the showgrounds from
The city and then 7 special tram service returning to the city from the
showgrounds.
Normal Friday service at this location is 8-12 minutes
Last trams to the city depart at approx 11.30pm.

BUS

Bus Route 472 runs roughly every 20 minutes on Friday from Williamstown via Footscray to Moonee Ponds and stops at corner of Charles Street and Epsom Road. Last bus to Moonee Ponds departs at approximately 10.12pm.

Last bus to Williamstown departs at approximately 10.26pm.

V LINE AND COACHES

For music lovers coming to Melbourne from regional areas V/Line trains and coaches will run to a Friday timetable. Visit viclink.com.au or call 136 196 for service information.

TAXI/PARENT DROP OFF

There are two designated drop off areas with access via the Main Entrance. One located on corner of Langs Road and Epsom Road near Victory Park for those from the northern suburbs and at the racecourse VRC Members Drive on the city side of the showgrounds. Please note that no U turns will be allowed along Epsom Road near the showgrounds.

Please note that post event, pick up will not be possible at the front of the event on Epsom Road as this will be closed to traffic. The pick up areas will be corner of Epsom Road and Langs Road (near Victory Park on the northern side and near the racecourse VRC Members Drive on the city side of the showgrounds.

PARKING

While it is advisable to use public transport, public car parking is available at the showgrounds. Spaces are limited and the cost will be $15 per car. Entry to the Showgrounds car park is via Langs Road and then walk around to Epsom Road main entry.
All of the local streets will be designated as “Permit Zone” only on the day of the event and parking restrictions will be heavily enforced so don’t risk getting a fine.
