UPDATE: The second Soundwave 2015 lineup announcement has landed — full details here.
Soundwave 2015 organisers have announced that the festival’s promised travel packages, which involve an airfare deal securing cheaper flights for punters travelling to all Soundwave 2015 destinations, are now available.
“Soundwave Festival 2015 is happy to announce travel packages are now available. Book your flights and hotel accommodation together to receive 5% off,” says a statement on the Soundwave 2015 website. “Packages are available for all shows from all over Australia.”
Festival chief AJ Maddah told Music Feeds recently that the festival will in fact be subsidising part of those airfares for fans. “They’re building this widget to go on our website which will be an access point for people to book their fares and from what I’m being told they’re going to be literally the cheapest fares available online anywhere, for anyone,” he explained.
“A lot of promoters do these deals with airlines, whereby they come and get a cut of the proceedings from the travel. We’re in fact subsidising it.” Punters booking flights for Soundwave can access the widget for the discounted Virgin Airlines airfares on the Soundwave Festival website’s main page.
The deal was considered as a consolation for Western Australian punters, following Soundwave Festival’s decision to drop Perth of the tour in 2015 after dismal 2014 sales. According to Soundwave, flights from any city in the country with a Virgin Airlines portal to all Soundwave destinations will be discounted by five per cent.
When you input details such as destinations and dates into the Virgin Airlines widget on the festival site, the airline directs you to a page detailing different flight options and calculates the Soundwave discount price.
Maddah previously said anyone coming to Soundwave will have access to these subsidised tickets via the website, but the festival is limited by the number of seats available on the Virgin flights. Tickets will be allocated on a “first booked, first served basis” and return flights will also be discounted.
Two new bands were recently added to the Soundwave 2015 lineup and a second lineup announcement, which includes a “Justice League of Rock” supergroup, is expected to drop very soon. Head to the Soundwave website to check out the discounted airfare rates.
