Sydneysiders Sparkadia will play a number of shows in March and April before they relocate to Berlin, Germany, to write and record the follow-up to their acclaimed 2008 debut ‘Postcards’.
The band had a whirlwind 2008. Not only did they conquer Australia with sold-out headline shows, but they also toured the UK and Europe extensively with Jimmy Eat World and Vampire Weekend before hitting the festival circuit. They played the UK’s Glastonbury, T in the Park, Oxygen, and V Festivals as well as Frequency Festival in Salzburg.
‘Postcards’ debuted at an impressive #23 on the ARIA chart, was nominated for the J Award ‘Album of the Year’ and yielded the radio staples ‘Too Much To Do’, ‘Jealousy and ‘Morning Light’.
Now, in 2009, Sparkadia are set to continue on their upward trajectory. Already things are off to a winning start – the band toured the country nationally on the massive Big Day Out tour and ‘Jealousy’ came in at #79 on triple j’s Hottest 100. Next up, it’s time to get international, as they relocate to Berlin indefinitely, where they’ll write and record a new album and tour Europe.
As a little way of saying Auf wiedersehen to all their Australian fans who have shown so much support over the past year, the band will be playing a string of shows before they pack their bags. They’ll be supported by Brisbane’s very fine John Steel Singers and other special guests. Tickets are on sale now – it’ll be quite some time before Sparkadia play on their home turf again, so get in quick!
