Speed have announced their two final shows for 2024 in their hometown of Sydney. Dubbed A Sydney Hardcore Xmas, the ARIA-nominated hardcore band will play at the Manning Bar in Camperdown on Saturday, December 21st as well as a matinee all-ages show on Sunday, December 22nd at Mary’s Underground in Circular Quay. The full line-ups for each show can be found below.
At the Manning Bar show, Speed will be joined by Perth-bred and now Melbourne-based grindcore veterans Extortion. The band were last in Sydney back in January, headlining The Real Hard Dark Hardcore mini-festival at Crowbar. Newcastle’s Volatile Ways, Secret World (which features Speed guitarist Dennis “D-Cold” Vichidvongsa) and Bozo round out the remainder of the bill.
Speed – ‘Don’t Need’
The Mary’s Underground show, meanwhile, will feature support from Newcastle’s Skorn and Sydney bands Migraine and The Real Deal – the latter of which played their first show in August supporting American hardcore band Pain Of Truth at their headlining show at the Lansdowne.
In addition, Speed have vowed to donate $10,000 from ticket sales across both shows to First Nations Response. The Marrickville-based charity is described as “a grassroots Aboriginal women-led organization” that “provides culturally appropriate support and urgent food relief to the Inner-West and Inner-City of Sydney mob”.
“In support of urban Aboriginal communities, our team makes extraordinary efforts to meet the complex needs of our communities, a statement on the charity’s website reads. “Our work has since become a crucial part of the support that is accessed by the most vulnerable members of our community and the broader community in general.”
Speed began the year performing at the second-annual Knotfest Australia alongside Pantera, Disturbed, Lamb of God and Halestorm, amongst others. They also toured internationally, including a run supporting Knocked Loose. They were meant to perform at Download Festival in the UK, but pulled out of the festival due to its ties with Barclays – which the festival have since cut.
In August, the band undertook a theatre tour of the country in support of their debut studio album, Only One Mode. They were joined by UK band High Vis, the aforementioned Pain Of Truth and Singaporean hardcore band Fuse on the run.
Last month saw Speed nominated for three ARIA Awards, marking their first-ever nominations. They are up for Best Group, Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album (for Only One Mode) and Best Video (for ‘Real Life Love’). The awards ceremony is set to take place a month before A Sydney Hardcore Xmas, at the Hordern Pavilion on Wednesday, November 20th.
Tickets for A Sydney Hardcore Xmas are on sale now via Speed’s Linktree.
