Spiderbait Drop ‘Straight Through The Sun’, First New Music In 9 Years

Janet English, Kram & Damian Whitty, better known as the three humans that comprise Spiderbait, are back with their first offering of sonic spoils since 2004 – Straight Through The Sun is the lead single from their upcoming self-titled album, which now has a street date of Friday, 15th November.

Following a 9-year breather, you’d understand if the band experienced a slight change of pace but, nope, not on their watch. Straight Through The Sun is testament to how little fury the 3-piece has lost over the years. Instantly, the wall of drumming hits you like the Spiderbait of days gone by, and everything down to the guitar tone will take you back to the happier days of 1996.

The track’s messy, loud and rapid, everything you’d expect from a song produced by Kram himself. Speaking of the track, the sticks man recalled:

“I was jamming in a garage a lot with my old 4-track and playing lots of drums, getting back into old epic psychedelic rock in a big way. It was a bit like the song had been waiting there for me. The lyrics just came to me too. I’ve always liked the Phoenix as a concept – born again from the ashes and then perish in fire – Awesome. Epic. And it seemed to fit the tune.”

The last LP from the band dates back to 2004 when they released Tonight Alright with the follow-up release being a best-of compilation. The ‘Bait now have a slew of of live performance on the horizon to announce their return with gusto, including slots at Meredith Music Festival and Queenscliff Music Festival.

Straight Through The Sun will be available as a free download from today, Friday, 6th September until Friday, 13th September via Spiderbait’s Facebook page.
