Steel Panther To Rerelease Controversial Guitar Effect With “Less Offensive” Name, Apparently

After causing a stir with a guitar effect named ‘The Pussy Melter’, tongue-in-cheek rock satirists Steel Panther are apparently preparing to bring the product back with a “less offensive” (but still pretty dirty) name.

The band were criticised earlier this week after a petition was launched to have the guitar effect — released as a TonePrint download by Danish company TC Electronic — removed for its sexist connotations.

A description of the guitar effect on TC Electronic’s website read in part, “When we met up with Steel Panther’s oh-so-humble guitarist, he had only one condition: that the tone be as wet as the ladies on the front row.”

The effect was later removed from TC Electronic’s website, with the company saying in a statement:

“It’s become clear that a number of people have been offended by the title and description of a delay TonePrint that we created over a year ago with Steel Panther’s Satchel.

“Steel Panther is an American comedic glam metal band from Los Angeles, California, mostly known for their profane and humorous lyrics, as well as their exaggerated on-stage personae that reenact the stereotypical 1980s ‘glam metal’ lifestyle.

“It has never been our intention to offend anyone but simply to provide fans of Steel Panther with guitar presets made by Satchel. We recognize that the material was inappropriate and we have removed the TonePrint in question from the app and we will take it down from our website as soon as possible. We sincerely apologize.”

Steel Panther member Satchel has since told fans on Twitter that the guitar effect is coming back with a more acceptable name.

“I’m working overtime with TC Electronics to re-release the ‘pussy melter’ tone print under the less offensive, more politically correct name of the ‘Butthole Burner’,” he said.

“Don’t worry – it will still melt your pussy, ladies.”

Meanwhile, his bandmate Stix Zadinia joked with fans, saying, “To whom it may concern, just melted a pussy. Don’t be offended. Or do. Your call.

“Today has been really entertaining online. Again, I’d sincerely like to express my love of pussy, weed, partying and heavy metal. @Steel_Panther is a lifestyle.”

Music Feeds has contacted TC Electronic for confirmation that Steel Panther’s TonePrint will be returning to its website.

Japanese Breakfast’s Michelle Zauner and Braids’ Raphaelle Standell-Preston were among the musicians who criticised TC Electronic for using sexist language to describe ‘The Pussy Melter’.

“What f*cking year is this ???,” tweeted Standell-Preston.

“Pls sign my friends petition to EDIT/REMOVE @tcelectronic disgusting write up for their ‘pussy melter’ guitar effect pedal. As a female guitarist and just a female in general this makes me super disappointed!”
