There appears to have been a rather dramatic latest twist in the ongoing drama that is Empire of the Sun, with Luke Steele telling NME that he has been in touch with former bandmate Nick Littlemore for the first time since the 2010 Brit Awards.
In a quite astonishing reunion, they apparently went into the studio together in New York to record some demos for the follow-up to 2008’s Walking On A Dream. Steele said, “Breaking news around the world, me and Nick have reunited and we’ve done about 10 demos for the next record so the new era has begun.”
Littlemore has had little to do with Empire Of The Sun since Walking On A Dream came out, working with Cirque Du Soleil in New York and more recently taking to the road with Pnau. Steele therefore assumed ownership of Empire Of The Sun and toured the globe.
Steele added, “We have such a weird relationship because the day before we actually went into the studio was the first time we’d spoken since the Brit Awards last year. And it was great the sessions went really well and we’re hoping to go into the studio again in September.”
That means bad news for those of us hoping that Steele would resurrect The Sleepy Jackson soon.
