Stones Throw Announce Release Date Of Debut Album From Jonti

Legendary Californian label Stones Throw (the home of Madlib, J Dilla, Mayer Hawthorne and Dam Funk) have just announced the release details of the debut album from our very own Music Feeds favourite Jonti (formerly Danimals), with the album, entitled Twirligig, due for release October 18th. The label’s first Australian signing, Jonti’s music blends together hip hop production with classic songwriting styles, with his music heavily influenced at one end by The Beach Boys and Brian Wilson and at the other beat makers like Dilla and Flying Lotus. Having already worked with the likes of Santigold, Sean Lennon, John Agnello and Albert Hammond Jnr, as well as producer Mark Ronson who described his music ad “incredibly original, really unusual and one of the most interesting things I heard in a while,” Jonti never the less has remained incredibly grounded as both an artist and performer, having recently pared back the live show to include only himself and a range of music gadgets that he uses to generate his dauntingly broad sound live. Recently headlining Tone as part of the Astral People launch, he has come a long way as a performer in the intervening years since he made his first forays into the music scene, with the future hinting at nothing but further improvement.

Already at work on the follow up to Twirligig, tentatively scheduled for some point in the new year, keep an eye out for Jonti. Already being touted as a new band to watch in publications like the Guardian and what have you, it seems the only way is up for this talented son of Sydney.

Twirligig will be available on Stones Throw on October 18th, and via Mistletone here in Australia on October 7th, with an advanced digital release available now from the Stones Throw website.
