Grime MC Stormzy has reassured Australian fans that he will “definitely” tour down under this year, and it might even be “sooner than expected”.
Stormzy last toured in Australia in September 2015, and while he was due to perform at Listen Out festival late last year, he ended up cancelling that appearance and a bunch of other 2016 shows.
Now, speaking with triple j, Stormzy says his return to Australia is imminent.
“It’s definitely happening this year and I think it’s gonna happen sooner than expected to be honest,” he says.
“I’ve got you, I promise Australia, I will be there – everywhere as well. Last time I only did Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney but this time I’m definitely gonna get busy and get around.
“This one now is going to be one of the best times ever that I’ve experienced on a tour because I remember the first time I came — this was in September 2015 — that’s coming up to a year-and-a-half ago and I was nowhere near… I hadn’t made as much progress, I wasn’t where I was today basically.
“I was a lot smaller, unknown but when I came here to tour it was some of the most packed venues, biggest crowds, knew all the words.
“I’m thinking, to come back like a year and a bit later and see the growth and I’ve got all these new songs, an album — I’m thinking ‘I’m ready!’ The first time felt like a warm-up. Now, it’s go time.”
Stormzy dropped his debut studio album Gang Signs & Prayer last month. Catch album cut ‘Big For Your Boots’ below, as we wait for those sweet, sweet tour dates to be announced.
