Sufjan Stevens returns today with news of his forthcoming instrumental project, Convocations. The five-volume collection was announced alongside the first single from the project titled ‘Meditation V’.
The first volume, Meditations, will be officially released tomorrow on Thursday, 8th April via Asthmatic Kitty. The rest of the project – including the other four volumes: Lamentations, Revelations, Celebrations and Incantations – will be released on Thursday, 6th May.
The US singer/songwriter’s last record The Ascension landed last September. Convocations is a collection written in tribute to the artist’s late father, who passed away just two days after Stevens released The Ascension.
Through the 49 new songs, Stevens will reflect “on a year of anxiety, uncertainty, isolation and loss”. According to the official press release, each volume is a reflection of each “stage” in the grieving process.
