It’s a bona fine Pride Month blessing.
Sufjan Stevens, AKA the soundtrack to countless nights of ~vague queer longing~ has today released two new songs on the topic of love as a limited edition 7″ single and on all digital platforms. Available through Stevens’ own Asthmatic Kitty label in celebration of Pride Month, the tracks are entitled ‘Love Yourself’ and ‘With My Whole Heart’.
A portion of the proceeds from the project’s sale will go to organisations that provide support for LGBTQ and homeless youth in America – the Ali Forney Center in New York and the Ruth Ellis Center in Detroit, Michigan.
While ‘Love Yourself’ is a reworking on a demo Stevens recorded back in 1996, he wrote ‘With My Whole Heart’ as a personal challenge “to write an upbeat and sincere love song without conflict, anxiety of self-deprecation.”
In addition to the tracks, Sufjan also designed a Pride T-shirt, available through his Sufjamz merch store.
