The team behind Melbourne’s boutique music and arts festival, Sugar Mountain, have been quietly working behind the scenes and are now ready to announce their triumphant 2014 return at an exciting new location as well as a brand-new partnership with Mushroom Group.
Full 2014 festival details, including the new location, will be announced early in the new year but the collective behind Sugar Mountain — Tig Huggins, Pete Keen, Brett Louis and Nicci Reid, collectively known as the To and Fro Family— have confirmed the festival will be moving on from Melbourne’s Forum Theatre, where it’s been since 2011.
The To and Fro Family will remain as the creative visionaries of the festival while working alongside Mushroom’s booking agent and leading Frontier Touring tour promoter Gerard Schlaghecke, and the Group’s Executive Director, Matt Gudinski.
“This is an opportunity for us to continue to diversify Mushroom Group’s reach in the live music world but most importantly to get involved and help evolve an event that we love and believe in,” says Gudinski. “Mushroom will bring a lot to the table while leaving Sugar Mountain’s unique artistic vision with those who have driven it since day one.”
The inaugural Sugar Mountain took place in April 2011, and has become a distinctive niche event in the Melbourne cultural scene. Its stages have played host to the likes of Dirty Projectors, Action Bronson, Peanut Butter Wolf, Deerhoof and Tune-Yards. They’ve also spearheaded the formation of Sugaryama, Sugar Mountain’s international ‘little sister’ music and arts festival.
