Sum 41’s drummer Steve “Stevo” Jocz has left the band after 17 years of service. Announcing the news via Facebook and Twitter, Jocz doesn’t give an explanation for his exit but rather thanks his fans and now former bandmates for “an amazing experience”.
There’s no word yet as to who will replace Jocz, and it also remains to be seen how Jocz resignation will affect Sum 41’s plans to release their sixth studio album in 2013. Last year frontman Deryck Whibley told Absolute Punk that Sum 41 would begin recording their new album once current touring commitments were completed.
Earlier in the month Sum 41 were forced to pull out of their Canadian tour supporting Billy Talent after Whibley’s re-injured his back.
Stevo has served as Sum 41’s drummer since the band’s beginnings in 1996, performing on the band’s memorable debut album 2001s All Killer, No Filler right through to 2011s Screaming Bloody Murder.

Touring with the band has been an amazing experience that has taken us far beyond our old practice space in my parent’s basement to countless countries around the world. I’ve had the opportunity to see and experience so much and for that I am truly grateful.
I just want to thank all of our fans for making the last 17 years possible. I had a blast.
