Swedish House Mafia Light Up Soggy Sidney Myer Music Bowl

Never have I been more thankful to have been undercover and up the front for last night’s Swedish House Mafia concert at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl.

The second show of the soon-to-split dance titans three-night-stand in Melbourne was a sea of ponchos, as punters endured driving rain and generally awful conditions from the outset.

Thankfully, they saw a band whose duty is to get people shaking their asses, and their avalanche of tunes certainly heated things up around the venue despite the terrible weather.

Back by an incredible light show and other pyrotechnics to boot, Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso put on an epic two hour set from the moment the curtain dropped.

Dry ice smoke clouds, flames, fireworks and lasers complimented some blinding visuals which spread across some huge LED screens at the back of the stage and on the front of the groups decks at the front of the stage.

It was effectively a greatest hits set from the group – think their recent compilation Until Now, the unofficial soundtrack of their One Last Tour – with added bells and whistles.

And while the pace was pretty relentless throughout the night, it peaked during their remix of Coldplay’s Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall, which, on cue, led to the guys waving Australian flags against a shower of fireworks.

The guys then finished off the knockout one-two punch with their worldwide smash Don’t You Worry Child, filled with confetti showers and mass singalongs. Greyhound, Antidote, Walking Alone, their remix of The Temper Trap’s Sweet Disposition and closer Save The World all also sent the crowd crazy throughout the night.

Swedish House Mafia play their third and final show at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl tonight, before hitting Sydney’s Skoda Stadium tomorrow night.
