Sweet Relief! has announced the line-up for its 2024 iteration, set to take place on Saturday September 7th at Brisbane’s Ballymore Stadium. It follows on from the inaugural event in 2023, which featured performances from Groove Armada and The Avalanches, and is described as “iconic festival of music, art and performance”. The full line-up can be found below.
Headlining the event will be American rnb veteran Kelis, who will be in the city as a speaker at this year’s Bigsound conference. It will be an exclusive Australian performance from the singer while she’s in the country, marking her first show here since 2017 – when she performed at that year’s RNB Fridays mini-festival. She was meant to return to Australia as part of the Beyond The Valley festival over the 2023/24 new-year period, but had to withdraw and was replaced by A$AP Ferg.
Also performing are The Presets, who will play their first live show in Brisbane since 2018 following their announcement on the Night At The Barracks line-up in Sydney. The duo have primarily been DJing the last two years, including a national DJ-set tour and opening for The Chemical Brothers.
Daryl Raven, the CEO of the Queensland Music Festival (QMF), expressed his excitement at the return of the festival in a press statement. “Sweet Relief! provides a stage where homegrown talent can stand alongside global icons,” he said. “We’re turning up the volume and proving that music is unstoppable. This is our moment to unite, celebrate, and let the music do the talking.”
Kelis – ‘Trick Me’
In addition to the full bill of musical performances, Sweet Relief! will also present what they describe as “Australia’s biggest dress-up competition”. The theme for the competition this year is ‘Find Your Fit’: “Express yourself freely, whether you’re shimmering in sequins, coordinating with your crew or serving any style that speaks to you,” organisers shared in a statement.
