From an impressive list of finalists, FBi have announced Sydney three-piece Middle Kids as the winners of its Northern Lights competition.
A tough competition from start to finish, the band were chosen from 600 original entrants, who were then short-listed down to eight finalists.
Now, as part of their prize, Middle Kids will head to Iceland to join the lineup of Iceland Airways Music Festival in Reykjavik this November. They’ll play on an already massive bill alongside the likes of The Internet, Of Monsters & Men, Warpaint, Santigold, and PJ Harvey, and will be given the chance to network with industry professionals at the personal studio of Sigur Rós. Following that they’ll get three days in Studios 301 in Sydney to record, mix and master to their hearts’ content.
This trio are no strangers to the industry, making names for themselves as solo artists before combining forces recently to release their debut single Edge Of Town earlier in 2016.
“We are extremely grateful to the amazing people at FBi for this opportunity. We feel the honour of being picked from this particular group of finalists, all of whom we admire greatly as wonderful artists,” the band say in a statement.
“We can’t wait to go on this precious adventure together. We particularly plan to enjoy rocking out with our cousins from the North and working on our nature photography.”
Former Northern Lights winners include the likes of The Walking Who, LUCIANBLOMKAMP, Moon Holiday, Rainbow Chan and Oliver Tank. Catch Middle Kids’ music video for Edge Of Town, below.
