Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker Reckons Alex Turner Is “In Another League” As A Songwriter (But Kev’s A Better Drummer)

In a new episode of Matt Wilkinson’s ‘5 Best Songs on Apple Music’ program, Tame Impala‘s Kevin Parker shouted out Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner, saying he considers the musician “in another league” to him as a songwriter.

Parker quickly qualified the claim by adding that despite Turner’s songwriting chops, “he he can’t play drums as good” as the Tame Impala mastermind.

Back in 2018, Parker expressed an interest in collaborating with Arctic Monkeys if he were asked (while speaking to Wilkinson, funnily enough.) Turner responded positively later that year (also while speaking to Wilkinson), saying, “I’d love to float with Kevin… Let’s float Kev.”

In the new episode, Parker went on to explain that although the pair are still yet to collaborate, the two musicians actually live down the street from one another these days.

“I was in his pool the other day. He wasn’t there at the time,” Parker said. “I didn’t jump his fence… Yeah. Jumped the fence. No, I didn’t.”

Elsewhere in the chat, Parker says he plans to be more prolific in future.

“At some point it’s got to dry up, right? So I guess you’ve just got to enjoy it and make the most of it while you can. Don’t worry, I promise it [the next album] won’t take five years.”

Tame Impala released latest album The Slow Rush earlier this month, while Arctic Monkeys have been relatively quiet since the release of sixth studio album Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino back in 2018.
