Justice Gail Standish, the US District Court judge presiding over a a lawsuit claiming pop star Taylor Swift copied plaintiff R&B Artist Jesse Braham’s lyrics, has won the heart of the internet with her Swift lyric laden and hilarious dismissal of the case.
Brahman, who also goes by the stage name Jesse Grahman, was suing Swift for $US42 million (AU$59 million) claiming the lyrics to the chorus of her song Shake It Off were stolen from his song Haters Gone Hate. Dismissing the case, Standish borrowed some lyrics from T-Swift as she did so:
“At present, the court is not saying that Braham can never, ever, ever get his case back in court,” she began.
“But, for now, we have got problems, and the court is not sure Braham can solve them.
“As currently drafted, the complaint has a blank space—one that requires Braham to do more than write his name.
“And, upon consideration of the court’s explanation … Braham may discover that mere pleading band-aids will not fix the bullet holes in his case. At least for the moment, defendants have shaken off this lawsuit.”
We love you Justice Standish… Judge Judy better watch out.
