Just a couple of weeks ago, Tegan and Sara announced their ninth studio album is on its way.
The album, titled Hey, I’m Just Like You is a project based around the once-lost-but-now-found cassette tapes from their high school years. They teased a home video with the announcement and it had one of the high school demos playing over it.
Today, we have the end result of that demo. ‘I’ll Be Back Someday’ has been rerecorded and is officially out in the world. It’s a brilliant combination of those fun AF 90s hooks, classic Tegan and Sara vocals, and angsty teen lyrics.
In a statement, Sara says, “We had been begging for an electric guitar, and on our 16th birthday, we got one.”
“Of course, we had to share it, so it became a weapon that we stole from each other’s rooms, barricading ourselves behind locked doors with guitar in hand. Screaming over the small amplifier, we tested our voices by writing punk songs, shredding our thumbs on the strings.”
‘I’ll Be Back Someday’ is the first single off of the upcoming album, Hey, I’m Just Like You. It’s set for release Friday, 27th September. They’ve also announced they’ll be releasing their memoir, High School a few days prior, on Tuesday, 24th September. The memoir is apparently a “raw account of the music, drugs, alcohol, love and friendship”.
