Bring Me The Horizon’s Oli Sykes has revealed that their collab with Evanescence’s Amy Lee came about after their managers exchanged words over last year’s ‘nihilist blues’.
Sykes told NME in an interview that the band’s collab with Amy Lee, ‘One Day The Only Butterflies Left Will Be In Your Chest As You March To Your Death’ came about after she sued them.
“The weird thing about Evanescence is that we got sued by them on our last record,” he told the publication.
“On ‘nihilist blues’, we ripped off one of their verses. It was subconscious, but when it happened we were like, ‘We’re not even going to argue’.”
After they credited Evanescence on the song, Sykes says “They were like, ‘Amy really likes your band and would love to work with you’.
“That was the silver lining,” he said.
The Bring Me The Horizon frontman later clarified that Lee didn’t sue the band, however words were exchanged between their managers.
“That wasn’t exactly true! Our managers just exchanged words and we offered them song writing credits, [Amy Lee] didn’t want a thing from the band in her words has nothing but love for us,” he tweeted.
And i have to clear something up! When i said @evanescence sued the band over nihilist blues, that wasn’t exactly true! Our managers just exchanged words and we offered them song writing credits, @AmyLeeEV didn’t want a thing from the band in her words has nothing but love for us

“Yo don’t quote me or I’LL SUE! Face with tears of joy. That whole story is actually really cool. Can’t believe it brought us HERE. You guys deserve every good thing that comes to you. Congrats,” replied Amy Lee.
Discussing the new Bring Me The Horizon release on Twitter, Sykes also revealed that Amy Lee pushed him to keep the vocals we hear in the song today.
“She pushed me to keep the takes you hear on the record.. I didn’t think they were good,” he tweeted.
“I was shocked when you said you didn’t think they were good,” Lee replied. “The moment I heard your first vocals back is when I realized how special the song was.”
I would probably have to say butterflies, just cos I’ve been trying to get that lyric in a song for about a year haha… and because of the collaboration with @AmyLeeEV was such a blessing. She pushed me to keep the takes you hear on the record.. I didn’t think they were good.. https://t.co/26zTf1umA3

But @AmyLeeEV pushed me out of my comfort zone and i now i see the reaction i know she was right.. it makes the song even more special to me… so crazy to work with legends like that, to talk to them like that, if you told 14 year old me i would of jumped off a bridge…

I was shocked when you said you didn’t think they were good. The moment I heard your first vocals back is when I realized how special the song was. You pushed me out of my comfort zone too. Singing all breathy like that is way harder for me and I’m so glad you had me keep going!
