Two big names in Australian rock music will host songwriting workshops during this year’s Vans Warped Tour. Members of Gympie hardcore act The Amity Affliction and Canberra experimentalists Hands Like Houses are setting aside time to give punters a look inside their creative processes.
The Amity Affliction’s Joel Birch and Dan Brown will be taking part in lyric and songwriting lessons on each day of the 2015 Vans Warped Tour in the US, with small groups of students going along for the ride.
In a statement (via The Entertainment Institute), the boys say, “We’re really excited to be able to pass on some of our knowledge and get to know some new people across America. We’re looking forward to speaking about some of our biggest passions and teaching people, just as people in the past have taught us.”
Birch has written every Amity Affliction lyric since he joined the band, while Brown has been playing guitar and penning songs since high school. To get the learning moving, the pair have devised an Inspiration Playlist for budding songwriters which can be streamed in full, below.
Hands Like Houses vocalist Trenton Woodley will be sharing his vocal technique and songwriting tips during the Warped Tour. He knows what a good teacher can do, and is hoping to share his knowledge with up-and-coming vocalists. Woodley has also put together an Inspiration Playlist, which is available in full, below.
Hands Like Houses drummer Matthew Parkitny will host drum technique workshops throughout the tour as well. Catch his Inspiration Playlist, below.
Birch, Brown, Woodley and Parkitny will be representing Australia as they teach throughout the US from June until August. For details of their Warped Tour teaching sessions, visit The Entertainment Institute website.
