The Amity Affliction’s have this afternoon addressed their split with Troy Brady, but we’re still no closer to finding out why the guitarist, a founding member of the band, suddenly left the band part way through a US tour.
Speaking with triple j‘s Lindsay McDougall on Drive with The Doctor, frontman Joel Birch has revealed that, although the split was amicable, trouble had been brewing within the band for some time.
“Obviously, there’s always going to be several sides to a story but without going into too much detail I think it was just time for a part in the road, if you will,” Birch told triple j.
“It had been coming over a fairly long period, and there was some trouble in the band after the last US tour, and we thought we’d ironed it out but it just didn’t work out that way in the end.”
As to the affect Brady’s departure might have on their live shows, like those already announced Australian tour dates next year, the frontman says the band are “not looking to replace Troy”.
Birch half-joked that remaining guitarist Dan Brown would have to pick up the slack Down Under, but also said The Amity Affliction might recruit Deez Nuts axe man Matt ‘Realbad’ Rogers.
If all fails Birch says he might take up the guitar himself and use “one of those N-Sync microphones” — a sight we’re very much looking forward to — though the singer admits he might have some shortcomings. “The most embarrassing part would be that I don’t even know what a power chord is.”
Over the weekend news broke that lead guitarist Brady had split from the band. Brady used his now former band’s official Facebook page to publicly announce his defection on Saturday.
At the time the guitarist did not reveal the reason behind his leaving, simply writing that “it is time for me to step away” and that leaving The Amity Affliction was “the hardest thing I have ever done.”
The next day the remaining members of The Amity Affliction issued their own statement, reassuring fans the alternative act would remain together, complete their current tour of the States, and have already begun work on a follow-up to this year’s record, Let the Ocean Take Me.
