The Bamboos are generally acknowledged as Australia’s greatest modern funk & soul band. Emerging from the deep funk scene of the early-2000s, The Bamboos have since forged a unique sound of their own, combining elements of old-school funk, hip hop, mod rock, psychedelic & northern soul.
In the decade since their inception, The Bamboos have released 4 studio albums, a live album & 14 singles on esteemed U.K label Tru Thoughts. They have toured Europe three times and have appeared at some of the country’s biggest festivals including Falls Festival, Bluesfest, The St Kilda Festival, Parklife, Meredith, Golden Plains and Days Like This!
The 8-piece line up led by guitarist Lance Ferguson (aka Lanu) and featuring the power-house vocals of Kylie Auldist are renowned for their blistering, high energy, live mix-tape style sets which have kept people dancing all the way from Byron Bay to Bratislava. Their most recent album 4 debuted at number 1 on the Australian iTunes R&B/Soul charts as well as featuring on Triple J, ABC Radio National, NPR The World, BBC Radio 2 and BBC6. Ferguson is currently enjoying success with his Lanu project whose 2nd album Her 12 Faces is out now locally through Inertia Recordings and features guest vocals from ARIA winner Megan Washington, who was first heard on The Bamboos cover of Kings of Leon’s King Of The Rodeo, all the while whilst writing new Bamboos and Kylie Auldist material.
For their 10th anniversary celebration, The Bamboos will play an assortment of tracks thought forgotten from the band’s sprawling catalogue including their early self-released instrumental 7” vinyl tracks.
The Bamboos are playing at Manning Bar on the 20th of May with The Psyde Projects & Paper Plane Project
